Royal Challengers Bengaluru restores three lakes as part of 'Go Green' Initiative

RCB made a promise last year to revitalize Bengaluru's lakes and improve the quality of life for those who lived nearby as part of their "Go Green Initiative."

Digital Desk: Franchise cricket team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has restored three lakes in Bengaluru as part of their 'Go Green' initiative.

RCB made a promise last year to revitalize Bengaluru's lakes and improve the quality of life for those who lived nearby as part of their "Go Green Initiative."

While enhancing the ecosystem surrounding these water bodies, RCB has finished restoring two of Bengaluru's largest lakes, increasing their ability to hold water and adding civic facilities to a third.

In order to desist and develop Ittgalpura Lake and Sadenahalli Lake, RCB joined forces with local government bodies and communities to initiate the Lake Improvement Works Project in October 2023.

The lakes were selected because of their extreme water stress and borewell depths, which range from 1000 to 1500 feet.

According to an RCB statement, these areas are completely dependent on surface water and groundwater and do not have access to Kaveri River water.

52 farmers have taken the dirt to use as topsoil for their farms, and more than 1.20 lakh tonnes of silt and sand have been removed from Ittgalpura Lake and Sadenahalli Lake. The material has been utilized to build paths and bunds across the lakes.

Stabilisation ponds and wetlands have been created as a result of the recovery of nine acres of lake land. The lakes' combined capacity to hold water has also expanded by up to 17 acres.

In Kannur Lake, on the other hand, the goal has been to enhance community ownership by utilizing lake assets to create civic amenities.

Since the inception of The Green Game in 2011, RCB has taken several steps to become the premier cricket franchise globally and the world's first carbon-neutral team, supporting a people's movement towards a more environmentally friendly globe.

RCB will be donning the green jersey in their next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday (April 21).
