Sex makes a comeback at Paris Olympics 2024, 3 lakh condoms to be distributed to the athletes

Digital Desk: As the countdown to the 2024 Olympics in Paris continues, the city of love is preparing to host the world's most celebrated sporting event with a unique twist. In a significant departure from the restrictions imposed during the Tokyo Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Parisian government has lifted the ban on physical intimacy between athletes, signaling a return to normalcy and celebration of human connection.

Laurent Michaud, the director of the Olympic Village, revealed in an interview the plans to provide 300,000 condoms for the 14,250 athletes who will be housed in their quarters during the Games. This decision marks a reversal of the policy implemented in 2020, where athletes were advised against intimate relationships to prevent the spread of the virus.

The distribution of condoms at the Olympics is not a new phenomenon. Dating back to the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where 8,500 condoms were handed out to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS, the practice has evolved over the years. From 70,000 condoms in Sydney in 2000 to a staggering 450,000 in Rio 2016, the quantities reflect a growing recognition of the importance of sexual health and awareness among athletes.

Despite the intimate atmosphere encouraged at the Paris Olympics, Michaud emphasized the importance of conviviality and comfort for athletes. With over 350 meters of buffet featuring world cuisine, including French specialties, the organizers aim to cater to the nutritional needs and preferences of the athletes while fostering a sense of camaraderie.

Michaud's assurance that "No champagne in the village, of course, but they can have all the champagne they want also in Paris" adds a touch of Parisian charm and hospitality to the event.
