Digital Desk: India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has stated that he was not invited to the Ahmedabad, Gujarat-based Narendra Modi Stadium to see the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 final.

In an interview with ABP News, Dev stated that he did not attend the India vs. Australia final as he was not invited. The Men in Blue are hoping to win their third ODI World Cup championship.

“I wasn’t invited. They didn’t call me so I did not go. As simple as that. I wanted the whole 1983 team to be there with me but I guess because it’s such a big event and people are so busy handling responsibilities, sometimes they forget,” said Dev.

Back in 1983, India won its first ODI World Cup championship under Dev's leadership. In the 1983 World Cup final at Lord's, India beat the West Indies to win the trophy for the first time.

India put themselves in a tight spot early in the contest after losing a few wickets. Mitchell Starc dismissed opener Shubman Gill after just four runs. Known for his aggressive batting style, Rohit Sharma attempted to steady the innings but, after scoring 47 runs, fell succumb to Glenn Maxwell's bowling, which Travis Head beautifully caught on the off side.

Before Pat Cummins bowled Kohli, he scored 54 runs. Another important player for India, KL Rahul, was vital in the middle order. He managed a strong fifty runs before Starc removed him from the game.

But the Australian bowlers, led by Mitchell Starc, who claimed three wickets, and Josh Hazlewood, who made significant contributions, held the scoring rate tightly under check.
