This World Cup Glenn Maxwell shone in the face of adversity in Mumbai while Virat Kohli scored a record-breaking century, and Mohammed Shami bowled a brilliant 4/22 under the lights in Lucknow.
Some exceptional performers shone regularly throughout the competition, dominating the run-scoring charts, dazzling with hundreds, or emerging as top wicket-takers.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced nine nominations for the Player of the Tournament award for the ongoing World Cup 2023, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah.

1| Virat Kohli accords 711 runs in his name
Virat stormed passed 700 tournament runs after another magnificent century during India's semi-final match against New Zealand.
Beginning with an unbeaten 85 against the Australians in Chennai, Kohli went on to score an unbeaten 55 against Afghanistan and an unbeaten tonne against Bangladesh, smashing a six to end the match. Scores of 95 and 88 against New Zealand and Sri Lanka followed, and his 49th ODI tonne - equaling Sachin Tendulkar's total - against South Africa drew the most attention.
Then, in the semi-final against New Zealand, he responded to the occasion, becoming the first batter in ODI history to score 50 ODI hundreds.
2| Adam Zampa owns the record with 22 wickets
Adam Zampa, who was a key component of Australia's T20 World Cup 2021 victory in similar conditions, has once again stood up for his country on the big stage.
In a similar vein to Kohli, Zampa responded to criticisms made by his critics, who may have yelled a little louder following a wicketless debut against India, claiming at least one wicket in his remaining eight group-stage encounters. Three straight four-wicket hauls came against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Netherlands, followed by two consecutive three-wicket hauls against England and New Zealand.
3| Quinton de Kock leading run scorer with 594 runs
Quinton de Kock was one of the tournament's leading run scorers for most of the competition, accumulating 591 runs.
In their first game of the tournament, South Africa set an all-time World Cup record with a total of 428/5 against Sri Lanka. The following game, he scored 109 against Australia, thrashing the bowlers all over the park. His willow didn't produce the same fire for the following few games, but against Bangladesh, he bludgeoned a magnificent 174, including 15 fours and seven sixes.
4| Mohammed Shami has taken 23 wickets
Mohammed Shami has shined since overcoming the injury that kept him out of the competition to begin with, posing a consistent threat to opposing batting lineups.
Shami stormed into the tournament, taking three of New Zealand's top four wickets and finishing with stats of 5/54 from ten overs. England appeared to be at a loss for solutions in his 4/22 performance in Lucknow, and the fast was unplayable in India's annihilation of Sri Lanka, finishing with 5/18. The bowler, on the other hand, delivered figures of 7/57 as India defeated the Kiwis by 70 runs to advance to the final.
No opposing batter would feel at ease against Shami, who appears to lift for his country at worldwide championships.
5| Rachin Ravindra records 578 runs with 5 wickets in World Cup
The New Zealand prodigy has made a tremendous impression at the World Cup, scoring three hundreds and two fifties to establish himself as one of the world's most promising players.
Ravindra's best performance came in the tournament opener against England, when he hit an unbeaten 123*, while five wickets with the ball demonstrated his all-round talent.
6| Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell's many superhuman efforts in this year's World Cup have run out of superlatives, and as an all-rounder, the Australian gives much-needed flexibility.
He somehow outdid his own headline-grabbing achievement at the competition, bringing Australia back from the dead at 49/4 and 91/7 chasing 292 against the Afghans, making the fastest-ever Cricket World Cup hundred (40 balls).
Maxwell thrived in spite of the Mumbai heat, battling cramps and suffering on his way to the first double century in a men's ODI chase and became the first Australian player to do it.
7| Rohit Sharma
The India captain has been at his magnificent best for the bulk of the competition, with one century and three half-centuries already to his name.
In this World Cup, he hit 28 sixes in 10 innings. This is the most sixes hit in a single World Cup campaign. Sharma also broke Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes struck in a World Cup, with 50.
Rohit does the brunt of his damage in the Powerplay, and his strike rate of 124.15 is in the top ten among all batters in the tournament.
8| Jasprit Bumrah accords 18 wickets in this tournament
If Shami's firepower wasn't enough, Jasprit Bumrah's nearly unheard mix of speed and movement in the air has kept India in command throughout the competition.
Bumrah has inhibited opponents keen to go hard in the Powerplay by bowling at less than four an over and bowling a big majority of his overs with the new ball.
His wicket-taking ability is also notable, with his run of wicket-taking games ending only in India's ninth encounter against South Africa. His 4/39 against Afghanistan remains his best of the tournament, although he also has multiple-wicket hauls in five other World Cup appearances.
9| Daryl Mitchell
Mitchell went about his business at the World Cup quietly, but his two centuries against India meant Rachin Ravindra was the only teammate to finish with more runs than him.
Mitchell's campaign highlight was a brilliant 134 against India in the semi-final, in which the right-hander hammered seven sixes to keep his side in the run chase.
