Digital Desk: The highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match has been changed from its original date of October 15 to October 14, according to the updated World Cup 2023 schedule announced by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday.
The venue for the event remained the same. The game will be played in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. A month after the schedules of all 48 matches, much to the relief of fans across the world, three Full Members objected, and there were rumours that security on the first day of Navratri might be an issue. However, the venues for the
World Cup matches remain untouched.
Following a meeting with the ten staging associations in Delhi, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah disclosed that the national cricket board of India had received requests for changes to the schedule from 2-3 ICC member boards taking part in the World Cup. Shah has firmly denied that the crucial meeting between Pakistan and India had been postponed for security concerns.
With the exception of the highly anticipated encounter between India and Pakistan, eight other World Cup games had changed. The last group-stage encounter between India and the Netherlands will now take place in Bengaluru on November 12 instead of November 11.
England's game against Afghanistan in Delhi has been postponed from Saturday, October 14, to Sunday, October 15, due to the change in the India-Pakistan match.
The crucial match between Australia and
South Africa in Lucknow has been moved back by 24 hours and will now take place on Thursday, October 12, rather than Friday, October 13. Pakistan's match against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad has been shifted from Thursday, October 12, to now being played on Tuesday, October 10.
Similar to this, New Zealand's game against Bangladesh, which was initially scheduled as a day match for October 14 in Chennai, has been moved back and will now be played as a day-night match on Friday, October 13.
The timing of England's game against Bangladesh in Dharamsala has changed slightly from the initial phase of the competition; the match will now begin at 10:30 AM (local time) instead of 10:30 PM as it was initially planned.
Towards the end of the league stage, there are three changes with the double-header encounters of Sunday, 12 November being moved a day earlier to Saturday, 11 November – Australia vs Pakistan in Pune (10:30 AM) and England vs Pakistan in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, India's final league match against the Netherlands will now be played in Bengaluru on November 12 instead of November 11, and it will be a day-night match.
