Shubman Gill is recovering very well and could return to play soon, according to India's batting coach Vikram Rathour.
Digital Desk: India opener Shubman Gill has landed in Ahmedabad ahead of the eagerly awaited ODI World Cup match against Pakistan on October 14. Before India's match with Australia, Gill had suffered a setback when he was diagnosed as having dengue fever, leading to his hospitalisation in Chennai.
Reliable sources claim that Gill's platelet count, which had dropped below one lakh and reportedly reached about 70,000, was the reason for his admission to the hospital on Sunday night. Fortunately, Gill's health rapidly got better, and he was released on Monday night along with a rise in his platelet count.
It is still unclear, however, if the 24-year-old opener will be able to participate in the match against Pakistan on October 14.
Shubman Gill is recovering very well and could return to play soon, according to India's batting coach Vikram Rathour.
"He was hospitalised, yes, but it was more for safety reasons, and he is now doing fine. He is back in the hotel [in Chennai]. The medical staff is keeping an eye on him, and he looks healthy. We are anticipating a speedy recovery for him, regardless of the update."
"Everybody in the team is healthy. The hope is that Gill will rejoin the battle quickly," he added.
Dr. Amrinder Singh gave India Today an exclusive interview and shared insightful information from AIIMS regarding Shubman Gill's healing process and subsequent return to duty.
"He must take a lot of liquid. Recovery will take some time.
He will quickly heal if his myalgias and joint discomfort are properly managed. He will be helped to recuperate by eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and liquids," according to Dr. Amrinder Singh.
Meanwhile, a senior consultant at Gangaram Hospital Dr. Atul Gogia has stated that a person's immunity plays a major role in how quickly they recover from dengue. Dengue often requires 10 to 15 days for a full recovery. However, some people who work in offices and have sedentary jobs might be able to go back to their jobs after just one week.
On the other side, professional athletes like Shubman Gill need to be extremely fit in order to run, handle the World Cup's pressures, and play for long stretches of time. It will therefore take some time for him to regain his previous level of strength.
In 2023, the opener for the Indian team has emerged as a dominant force in the One Day International (ODI) format.
