Digital Desk: Indian javelin sensation Neeraj Chopra who made headlines with his historic gold medal win at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, continued his impressive form by securing the second spot at the Zurich Diamond League. Chopra's spectacular performance left the crowd in awe as he came close to overtaking the leader, the Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, with a best attempt of 85.71 meters.

The competition in Zurich showcased Chopra's resilience and determination as he made a stunning comeback after initially faltering in his second and third attempts. In the early stages of the event, the Indian athlete found himself in fifth place, with Germany’s Julian Weber taking the lead. However, Chopra swiftly regained his form with a remarkable throw of 85.22 meters in his fourth attempt, propelling him to the second position behind Vadlejch.

Chopra's fifth attempt was not as fortunate, as he committed another foul but managed to maintain his second-place position. The suspense reached its peak during his final attempt when he unleashed a powerful throw that covered a distance of 85.71 meters, nearly eclipsing Vadlejch's best attempt of 85.86 meters. Although Chopra narrowly missed claiming the top spot, his performance was nothing short of spectacular.

The 25-year-old Indian athlete has been on a remarkable journey since his historic gold-winning performance at the World Athletics Championships in 2023, where he became the first Indian to clinch the top spot in the men's javelin final with an astonishing throw of 88.17 meters. Chopra's exceptional achievement at the championships also secured his qualification for the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Prior to his historic gold medal win, Chopra had already made his mark on the international stage by winning a silver medal at the Oregon World Championships in 2022, marking a significant milestone for Indian athletics. This was India's second-ever medal at the World Athletics Championships, following long-jumper Anju Bobby George's bronze in 2003.

Chopra's consistent excellence was evident earlier in the year when he claimed the top spot in the Doha Diamond League in May 2023 with a throw of 88.67 meters. His stellar performance in Doha also saw him rise to the number one position in the men's javelin throw rankings published by World Athletics, further solidifying his status as one of the world's elite athletes.
