Doha: Top woman Javelin thrower Annu Rani qualified for the final round of the World Athletics Championship being held in Doha by smashing her own national record yesterday. The 27 year old smashed her own record from 62.34 meter to 62.43 meter becoming the first Indian to reach the finals of the Women’s javelin throw in the process.
The national record winner has created history by becoming the first Indian to reach the finals scheduled to take place today. Annu Rani finished third in Group A and qualified for the finals as the fifth-best performer of the qualification round.
In her first throw, Annu Rani managed to touch a distance of 57.05m, while she had a 60.50m in her third and final throw. Meanwhile, two other Indians Archana Susheendran and Anjali Devi who competed yesterday did not succeed to go ahead of the first round in the women’s 200 meter and 400 meter respectively.
