CWG 2022: Smriti Mandhana climbs to a career-high 3rd position in ICC T20I rankings

Smriti has surpassed Sophie Devine of New Zealand and is now only two rating points behind Beth Mooney of Australia...

Digital Desk: Smriti Mandhana achieved a career-high third spot among batters in the ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings following a devastating fifty against Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Smriti has surpassed Sophie Devine of New Zealand and is now only two rating points behind Beth Mooney of Australia. After regaining the top spot the previous week, Meg Lanning is still in the lead.

Mandhana, who was once ranked first among batters in ODIs, has also previously ranked third in T20Is; she achieved so for the first time in 2019 and last did so in October of last year.

Suzie Bates of New Zealand has moved up two places to sixth place after scoring 91 runs off 64 balls against South Africa. Tahlia McGrath has moved up one spot to the 12th; India's captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, has moved up four spots to the 14th, Pakistan's Nida Dar has moved up three spots to the 40th, and South Africa's Chloe Tryon has moved up five spots to 47th.

After shining with the bat against India and the ball against Barbados, who is representing the West Indies in the eight-team competition, Ashleigh Gardner of Australia has risen in all three lists.

Gardner's opening-match hit of 52 not out has moved her up five places to 11th, while her haul of two for six against Barbados has moved her up from 45th to 26th. She has risen to a career-high third place among all-rounders.

Australia's left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen, who took four for 22 against India, is now ranked fourth among bowlers, behind Sophie Ecclestone of England.

Amelia Kerr of New Zealand and Megan Schutt of Australia, both fast bowlers, have climbed one spot each to grab the seventh and eighth positions, respectively, while Barbados captain Hayley Matthews has climbed two positions to take the ninth spot.

Due to the T20I classification of all Commonwealth Games matches, the performances of players who are now representing Barbados and have previously played for the West Indies are reflected in the most recent rankings. However, as Barbados is not an ICC member, games involving Barbados will not be included in the team rankings. All other matches save those involving Barbados, will be rated according to standard criteria.

Nonkululeko Mlaba of South Africa (up two places to 22nd), Sri Lanka spinners Oshadi Ranasinghe (up two places to 24th), and Inoka Ranaweera (up four places to 44th) also moved up the bowlers' rankings.

India medium-pace bowler Renuka Singh has jumped 48 places to 49th after taking a career-high four for 18 against Australia.
