Visakhapatnam: Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made history on Sunday as he became the joint-fastest to take 350 Test wickets in his 66th Test. Sri Lanka’s legendary spinner Muralitharan, who retired in 2010, had also claimed 350 wickets in 66 Test matches.
Ravichandran Ashwin accomplished the feat in the morning session of the fifth day of of the first test of the three-match series against the visiting South Africa in Vizag by removing overnight batsman Theunis de Bruyn for 10. In the first innings, he took seven wickets bagging his 27th five-wicket haul on Friday.
In fact, the 33-year-old off-spinner made a strong comeback as he last played a Test match for India in December 2018 failing to make the cut in the playing XI for the two-Test series against the West Indies.
