Digital Desk: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced the first-ever Future Tours Program (FTP) for women's cricket, with India hosting New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the West Indies.
The FTP outlines the international fixtures, including ICC events and bilateral series. It will bind the cricket boards to meet international duties until the end of April 2025, when the ICC Women's 50-over World Cup will be held in India.
India will tour England, Australia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka as part of the FTP.
The ICC General Manager of Cricket, Wasim Khan, said that the first women's FTP's approval marked a turning point in the development of women's cricket.
"This is an important milestone for women's sports. This FTP not only provides predictability for upcoming cricket tours, but it also lays the groundwork for a system that will undoubtedly develop over the next few years," Khan said.
Over 300 international women's matches, including seven Test matches, 135 ODIs, and 159 T20Is, will be played in total between the ICC members. Prior to the World Cup in India, the nations will play a three-match bilateral ODI series as part of the ICC Women's Championships for the years 2022–25.
A T20I series will run concurrently with the bilateral ODI series, with some countries choosing to play a five-game T20I series in addition to the ICC Women's Championship matches. All bilateral T20Is will count toward a team's rankings, which will then determine whether or not that side is eligible to compete in ICC events.
