Doha : After a heartbreaking loss to Oman in Guwahati for the FIFA World Cup qualifying match, Indian football team towered defending team Qatar ending on a draw yesterday. India football team captain Sunil Chhetri could not hide his emotions after India managed to hold Asian Champions and FIFA World Cup host Qatar to a 0-0 draw at their own backyard in Doha on Tuesday.
Chhetri who was missing from action yesterday due to high fever and fatigue credited the staff headed by the coach Igor Stimac for the achievement. “Dear India, THAT is my tea and THOSE are my boys! Cannot describe how proud I am at this moment. Not a big result for the table, but in terms of a fight, as big as it can get. Huge credit to the coaching staff and the dressing room,” tweeted Chhetri.
The star of the evening on the Indian side was goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who single-handedly stopped the Qataris from scoring any goal in the Group E match which will be remembered for long by the Indians. The goalless draw put India in the FIFA World Cup qualifying group on a high chase for a place in the next round.
