Guwahati : In much anticipated FIFA World Cup qualifier between India and Oman at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati yesterday turned out to be a shocker for many as the defending team Oman defeated India with 2-1 score.
In their first FIFA World Cup qualifying match, India had to face defeat at the hands of their opponents with Oman scoring 2 goals and India ending with just 1 goal. Oman’s Alawai Al mandhar scored two goals to cancel out Sunil Chhetri’s 25 minute strike.
India was leading for most part of the match but Al Mandhar grabbed the limelight by snatching the victory with two sublime finishes within last eight minutes of the match. India has now a gigantic task as they travel to Qatar to play the host of the FIFA World Cup 2022. India can be lucky as it is being clubbed with 2022 World Cup host Qatar in the Asian qualifiers second round because if India finishes in the second place, behind Qatar, it will give an edge to reach the third qualifying round.
