Pakistan announces Matthew Hayden as its mentor for 2022 T20 World Cup
Matthew Hayden will resume as Pakistan's coach for the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. He had played the same job for them in the previous year's edition.

Digital Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reassigned Australian striking legend Matthew Hayden as team coach for the ICC World T20 Cup, which will be held in Australia.

Hayden expressed confidence that Pakistan's team, with its formidable lineup, will light up the huge tournament next month. Hayden played for Pakistan in last year's World T20 Cup in the UAE, when they were defeated by Australia in the semi-finals.

Hayden will join the team in Brisbane on October 15, the day after Pakistan arrives from Christchurch after competing in a T20I series that also includes Bangladesh and hosts New Zealand.

The PCB also appointed South African Vernon Philander as a bowling consultant for the last World Cup.

The PCB stated that the move is a continuation of Hayden's involvement with the national men's team after he inspired them to the World Cup semifinals last year.

Ramiz Raja, Chairman of the PCB, stated, "I'm delighted to have Matthew Hayden back in Pakistan colours. He is a seasoned performer, with credentials that are acknowledged and recognized all around the world."

"He brings with him a wealth of experience of Australian conditions, and I am convinced that his participation will greatly aid our highly gifted players for the World Cup and future tours Down Under," Ramiz added.

The PCB also obtained sponsorship to cover Hayden's fees.

"I am incredibly pleased to be returning with the Pakistan team and can't wait to join the culture again and feel the spirit of One Nation, One Passion," expressing his feelings Hayden stated in a PCB release.

"I've seen how Pakistan is doing in the ACC T20 Asia Cup, and Sunday's triumph over India was fantastic," he added.

"I believe this Pakistan team has what it takes to excel in Australia, and the conditions would suit them well, both batting and bowling." "This squad has covered all of its bases, and I am confident it will light up the World Cup as it did in the UAE last year," Hayden remarked.
