Ulan-Ude (Russia) : Assam’s Jamuna Boro advances to the quarterfinals being held in the World Boxing Championship (WBC) in Russia. Jamuna defeated Algerian competitor Ouidad Sfouh, an African Games gold-medallist, by 5-0 on Wednesday.
In a category of 54 kg, Jamuna outpunched the Algerian boxer in an engaging battle with her cleanly struck punches. In her next match, Boro will take on Belarus’ Yuliya Apanasovich.
Walking along the lines of Jamuna, another boxer from Assam Lovlina Borgohain advanced to the quarterfinals in her 69 kg category today on Wednesday. Borgohain defeated Morocco’s Oumayma Bel Ahbib 5-0. It is noteworthy that six-time world champion MC Mary Kom has already advanced to the quarterfinals.
