Changzhou (Jiangsu): Current world badminton champion PV Sindhu kicked off her China Open 2019 campaign with a comfortable 21-18, 21-12 victory over China’s Li Xuerui to advance to the second round today. However, the world No.8 Saina Nehwal went down 10-21, 17-21 to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the first round itself in a match lasting for 44 minutes on Wednesday.

World Champion Sindhu started the match on a strong note, taking a four-point lead in the initial stage. However, the Chinese leveled the scored at 9-9, after which Sindhu once again took charge of the proceedings. The Chinese started the second game on a strong note, taking a four-point lead before Sindhu got into the groove and dominated most part of the final game.
On the other hand, Saina Nehwal suffered her second consecutive defeat to the Thai shuttler at the China Open World Tour Super Tournament being played at the Olympic Sports Center Xincheng Gymnasium in Changzhou, Jiangsu. Sources say that Saina was asked to stay away from the court for more than two months due to fitness issues.
