Rajasthan Royals secured their first win in IPL 2025 on Sunday.
Digital Desk: Rajasthan Royals’ captain Riyan Parag heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday at his hometown –Guwahati after Rajasthan Royals secured their first victory of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in their third attempt. However, the match violations triggered an expensive financial penalty for Parag under IPL rules.
The BCCI imposed a hefty penalty on Parag through an announcement on Monday, following the slow delivery rate maintained by the Rajasthan Royals during their Chennai match at Barsapara Stadium. Riyan Parag received a Rupees 12 lakh penalty because Rajasthan Royals earned their first violation during IPL 2025 through Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct rates for minimum over-rate violation.
The slow over-rate choice made by Parag resulted in his being issued a monetary penalty during the 30th March match after Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians received a similar punishment earlier during the match against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Saturday, in which MI faced a crushing 36-run defeat.
Before the start of IPL 2025, Hardik Pandya completed his one-match ban because MI had violated the IPL Code of Conduct during the 2024 IPL, which led to his absence for Mumbai's first game against CSK. The BCCI announced before the current tournament began that skipper punishments for slow over-rate offenses will be substituted by demerit point penalties determined by how serious the infraction is.
Rajasthan Royals achieved their first IPL 2025 victory on Sunday against CSK in Guwahati.
Rajasthan will next face Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
