'What Do You Need That Many Breaks For?' - Ravi Shastri's bold statement on Coach Rahul Dravid
Ravi Shastri stated that he is not good with Rahul Dravid and co. taking regular breaks, and that impacts the coach-player connection...

Digital Desk: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his displeasure with the current Indian coaching setup's frequent rest time. Shastri stated at a press conference before of the T20I series between India and New Zealand that he is not good with Rahul Dravid and company taking regular breaks, adding that it impacts the coach-player relationship. Shastri questioned the choice to give Dravid so many breaks between tasks, claiming that the IPL should be ample time for a coach to recuperate.

"These breaks... to be honest, why do you need so many? You get your 2-3 months of IPL relaxation, which is plenty for a coach. However, I believe that a coach, whomever he is, should be hands-on at times" Shastri made the remarks during a virtual press conference ahead of India's first T20 International against New Zealand.

Let's have a look at Dravid's coaching tenure

Dravid has not been to New Zealand with the Indian team for the next white-ball series. Former India cricketer VVS Laxman has been appointed to coach the Men in Blue in their bilateral series against New Zealand.

However, this is not the first time Dravid and his coaching staff have been absent from a series. Dravid previously missed India's tour of Zimbabwe, as well as last month's home series against South Africa.

Dravid has failed to make an impression on the Indian team since taking over as coach. Under Dravid's leadership, India failed to win the Asia Cup in the UAE before being knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals.

India will face New Zealand in a three-match T20 International series beginning November 18. The opening match will take place at Wellington's Sky Stadium. Hardik Pandya has been selected Indian captain for the T20I series, as veteran players, including Dravid, have been rested.

India's T20I Playing Squad for New Zealand T20I series: Hardik Pandya (C), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (VC and WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik.
