Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services in select cities on Saturday while inaugurating the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) in Delhi. The new technology will offer seamless coverage, high data rates, reduced latency, and extremely dependable communications. It will improve network, energy, and spectrum efficiency.

The fifth generation, or 5G, is anticipated to unleash new economic prospects and societal advantages while also supporting ultra-high-speed internet services, acting as a transformative force for Indian society.

How fast will the 5G internet?

5G offers speed multiple times faster than 4G, supports lag-free connectivity, and can enable billions of connected devices to share data in real-time. Compared to the 100 Mbps peak of 4G, internet speed on 5G might reach 10 Gbps. Depending on your 5G coverage, download rates might vary between 1Gbps and 10Gbps.

Latency, or the time it takes for a device to send data packets and receive a response, is between 10–100 ms (milliseconds) in 4G and under 1 ms in 5G. A shorter latency is essential for a quick response.

Beyond enabling connections with extremely low latency, 5G can also support applications like e-health, connected cars, more immersive augmented reality and metaverse experiences, life-saving use cases, and advanced mobile cloud gaming, among others.
