Dell to lay off around 6,500 workers; 5% of its global workforce
The competitor PC brand to Dell's said that roughly 6,000 HP employees would be let go over the following three years. Additionally, HP acknowledged that the drop in PC demand was the main driver for this choice.

Digital Desk: Due to the drop in demand for personal computers, Dell has declared its intention to lay off about 6,650 employees. About 5% of the company's global workforce is predicted to be impacted by job losses.

In a Bloomberg report, Jeff Clarke, Dell's co-chief operating officer, stated that the company is dealing with challenging market conditions and an unclear future. The persistent difficulties facing the personal computer industry are to blame for the layoffs.

Clarke stated in the employee memo, "We've survived economic downturns before and we've come out stronger. When the market recovers, we will be prepared.

The announcement of employment cuts at Dell is the latest in an increasing number of technology companies—including Google, Amazon, Meta, and Twitter—that have been compelled to take similar actions as a result of the pandemic's financial effects. The crisis has taken a heavy toll on the once-reliable employment-producing technology sector, and businesses are now trying to figure out how to balance cost-cutting measures with the need to stay competitive.

Approximately 6,000 HP employees would be let go over the next three years, according to the competitor PC brand to Dell's. HP also recognised that this decision was primarily motivated by a decline in PC demand.

Amazon and Google Start with layoffs in 2023

The world's largest search engine, Google, let go 12,000 workers in January, and Amazon chose to let go 18,000 workers rather than the anticipated 10,000. Over 1,50,000 job terminations have occurred in the ICT sector in the last few months. As popular career paths like H1B visas in the US depend on a company to remain relevant, layoffs are worsening the situation for immigrants. The sacked workers are given a 60-day window of opportunity to find new employment or depart the country.
