Digital Desk: Elon Musk has announced that the revamped Twitter Blue will be relaunched on November 29. The billionaire announced the news on Twitter. He claimed that the service will be delayed in order to get a "rock solid" start.
In a tweet, the Twitter CEO said, "Punting the relaunch of Blue Verified to November 29th to make sure that it is rock solid." Musk stated in the same series of tweets that all legacy blue checkmarks would be removed within a short period of time.
When asked about the official badge and similar badges to promote celebrities, Musk stated that it will be difficult to determine who is and isn't a celebrity. He believes that "follower count and disallowing purposeful impersonation" could be factors in making the distinction.
In a tweet, he said, "Hard to say who’s celeb & who isn’t. Being able to sort by follower count & disallowing deliberate impersonation probably solves this."
The revised Twitter Blue was launched a week following Musk's takeover, causing turmoil on the platform as both legacy checkmarks and the new Twitter Blue membership was active. Many users were able to change their names to impersonate other popular accounts while still having the blue checkmark. Impersonator accounts have increased as a result of the confusion. Twitter eventually removed the feature.
Elon Musk has stated that the new feature will cost $7.99 in the United States. The price has not been officially announced in India, however, several users have reported receiving notifications to subscribe to Twitter Blue at Rs 719. The cost turns out to be higher than what US subscribers were requested to pay for the Blue subscription.
