Digital Desk: Facebook parent company Meta appointed Sandhya Devanathan as the Vice-President of Meta, India, on Thursday. She will begin her new role on January 1, 2023, and will report to Dan Neary, Meta's vice president for the Asia-Pacific region.
The news comes only two weeks after former Meta India head Ajit Mohan resigned and joined rival Snap. Manish Chopra, Director and Head of Partnerships for Meta, India, is currently serving as the interim leader of Facebook's India unit.
Devanathan joined Facebook in 2016 and has since worked to develop the company's e-commerce operations in South East Asia, as well as its companies in Singapore and Vietnam. Prior to this position, she was in charge of Facebook's gaming vertical for the Asia Pacific (APAC) market.
"India is at the forefront of digital adoption, and Meta has introduced several of our top products in India early, such as Reels and Business Messaging. It gives us great pride to announce the recent launch of JioMart on WhatsApp, which is the country's first complete end-to-end purchasing experience. I'm happy to introduce Sandhya as our new leader for India. Sandhya has a track record of successfully scaling organizations, establishing excellent and inclusive teams, driving product innovation, and forging solid relationships. We are excited to have her oversee Meta's continued expansion in India," stated Marne Levine, Meta's Chief Business Officer, on Devanathan's appointment.
