Digital Desk: Apple iPhones are known for their durability and security features. The Cupertino-based tech behemoth rolls out security patches for its devices from time to time. Although Apple recommends that consumers install the most recent builds of iOS on their iPhones in order to have a more secure and feature-rich operating system, older iPhone models are unable to load the most recent updates owing to hardware limitations. Some users prefer to use older versions of iOS for their simplicity of use, however, it's important to note that older iOS versions are easier to exploit. The Indian government has issued a warning for iPhone owners after spotting one such vulnerability in Apple iOS.
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has stated that an iOS vulnerability has been reported, which might allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted device. The issue affects Apple iOS versions prior to 12.5.7 for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation).
According to CERT-In, this vulnerability exists in Apple IOS due to a type of misunderstanding fault in the WebKit component. An attacker could take advantage of this flaw by enticing the victim to a maliciously created website. If this vulnerability is successfully exploited, an attacker may be able to run any code they choose on the targeted system. The vulnerability is actively being exploited against iOS versions prior to iOS 15.1.
To avoid any swindling, install the newest iOS 12.5.7 patch, which Apple released earlier this week.
