Digital Desk: The satellite constellation builder Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) reached an important space mission milestone with the successful launch of the next-generation NVS-02 navigation satellite into orbit. ISRO marked its historic 100th rocket launch from Sriharikota while advancing Indian space exploration during this event. The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) carrying the NVS-02 lifted off from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 6:23 am.
The launch vehicle completed the mission by moving NVS-02 into a 322.93 km geosynchronous transfer orbit during a period of 19 minutes. In a recent address V. Narayanan emphasized ISRO's prestigious accomplishments showing how the organization launched six rocket generations along with 120 tonnes of 548 satellites where 433 came from different countries. The main highlights include the Chandrayaan missions and Mars Orbiter Mission and Aditya-L1 alongside a satellite launch carrying 104 satellites into orbit. In the coming days, , the satellite’s orbit will be raised to its final position.
GSLV-F15 marked its 17th mission and the 11th successful launch using an indigenous cryogenic stage. NVS-02 operates as a weighty 2250 kg replacement for IRNSS-1E and incorporates next-generation NVS navigation payloads that span the L1, L5, and S bands together with C-band ranging capabilities. Consisting of a precise time estimation system, the satellite uses a Rubidium Atomic Frequency Standard (RAFS) atomic clock.
The NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) system includes NVS-02 as one of its components serving India together with surrounding areas through accurate position and velocity along with timing solutions.
