Digital Desk: Asmi Jain, a 20-year-old from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is one of three winners of Apple's Swift Student Challenge this year.
Apple announced a challenge to students around the world to create an original software playground using the Swift coding language ahead of its annual developer conference WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference).
On Tuesday, the company revealed that Asmi Jain, a 20-year-old developer from Indore who used her coding abilities to solve difficulties in the healthcare sector, was one of the top three winners this year.
Reportedly, Ms Jain is currently enrolled at Medi-Caps University in Indore. She was inspired to create the playground healthcare app after her friend's uncle underwent brain surgery and was left with eye misalignment and facial paralysis.
While as a consequence, she created her winning playground to detect a user's eye movements while they try to follow a moving ball around the screen. The playground's objective, according to Apple, is to assist train the eye muscles.
According to the press release, Ms Jain now hopes that her app playground will be used by those suffering from a range of eye diseases and traumas.
"It was important for me to create an app playground that could positively impact the lives of people like him," she explained. "My next goal is to gather feedback and ensure that it is effective and user-friendly before releasing it on the App Store." Eventually, I intend to expand it so that it strengthens all of the muscles in the face, and I hope it can one day serve as a rehabilitation tool that people like my friend's uncle can use at their own pace," she added.
Furthermore, the 20-year-old noted that her motivation for coding stems from the desire to solve problems in the healthcare industry. She and a few other students recently started a forum at her university so that their classmates could get help with difficult coding challenges.
Notable winners include 21-year-old Yemi Agesin from the United States and 25-year-old Marta Michelle Caliendo. The challenge winners will now be among those attending the keynote, events, labs, and activities accessible to the global Apple developer community this year when WWDC23 begins out next week on June 5, the firm revealed in a press statement.
