Uber users can now under some circumstances, can cancel an Uber ride at the last minute without paying a penalty...
Digital Desk: When passengers cancel a ride after the driver has arrived at the destination, Uber charges a cancellation fee. While cancellations might occur for any reason, the corporation defends the fees as a method to compensate drivers for the time and effort they expend travelling to the site.
While we all know this, or at least all of us who use Uber, it is not accurate. With a strong emphasis on safety, Uber India claims that riders can cancel a journey for free even at the last minute under specified conditions.
All of this is because Uber cares about its riders' safety and takes a safety-first approach, says Mansi Chadha, Uber's customer experience director for India and South Asia.
Manasi while being interviewed by India Today Tech, said that if a consumer does not feel safe after seeing and meeting the driver and the assigned automobile, they are free to cancel the ride.
"At Uber, safety is at the heart of everything we do."If you do not feel safe, or if the ride does not meet safety criteria, consumers should cancel their trip even if it has arrived (at the pick-up spot)," she advised.
The user is still charged a cancellation fee in this case. However, if the consumer requests a refund promptly and cites safety as the cause, the cancellation charge is automatically refunded.
So, what are the conditions under which you can firmly - and without penalty - cancel an Uber ride once the cab has arrived at your pickup location?
1| The driver advises that you take an offline ride
2| Incorrect vehicle or driver identification
3| Driver refuses to accept the fare using the predetermined payment method
4| If the driver requests money in addition to the travel fare
5| The car's back seatbelts are inoperable
6| How Uber rides are cancelled and refunded
If you cancel a ride after the driver has arrived at the pickup location, Uber will impose a cancellation fee regardless of safety concerns. However, if the cancellation is due to safety concerns, you can request a reimbursement from Uber. You can accomplish this by:
Step 1: After cancelling the trip, navigate to the Uber app's 'Trips' section.
Step 2: Select the cancelled trip to view the amount charged as a cancellation fee. Select the 'Get travel help?' option.
Step 3: Select 'Dispute my cancellation charge' from the menu.
Step 4: Finally, click the 'Review my cancellation charge' button and submit.
Step 5: You will see a list of cancellation reasons. Choose your reason and submit it.
According to Uber, you may look into the cancellation cost and get it refunded in all of the instances stated. In most circumstances, the reimbursement is immediate.
