Digital Desk: WhatsApp shows what's in the bag for Apple iPhone and Android smartphone users with its beta updates. The Meta-owned messaging app hinted at a new feature called 'silence unknown caller' in its newest beta update for Android phones. As the name suggests, users of the feature will be able to mute calls from unknown numbers.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the new feature is presently under development on WhatsApp beta for Android. The report suggests that the feature will only mute the calls, which will still be visible in the call list and notification center.

This feature will also have a number of benefits, such as reducing interruptions and potentially avoiding spam calls.

Users will find the toggle in the app settings, and once enabled, calls from unknown numbers will be silenced, but they will still appear in the calls list and notification center, according to the report.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is rolling out a new "Split view" feature for tablets that will enable users to see and use two different sections of the app side by side at the same time on Android beta.

Usually, when users open a chat on the tablet version of the application, the chat view typically takes up the full screen, and users must return to the chat list to open a different conversation.  With the new feature, the chat list will always be visible when opening a chat.
