WhatsApp May Temporarily Ban Your Account If You Do This..

the planned functionality will allow limited users to respond to current chats but not start new ones

Digital Desk: WhatsApp's new security feature, 'Account Restriction', is a significant step towards enhancing user privacy and curbing fraudulent activities on the platform. This feature, currently being tested, will temporarily block accounts flagged for suspicious activities from sending new messages. While they can still receive messages and calls, this restriction aims to prevent spam messages, telemarketing, and other forms of abuse.

According to WeBetaInfo, the planned functionality will allow limited users to respond to current chats but not start new ones. When users attempt to start a new chat, they will see a pop-up notification telling them that their account has been restricted due to infractions such as sending spam or bulk messages.

This initiative comes in the wake of WhatsApp's efforts to comply with IT Rules 2021 and address concerns over fraudulent accounts, especially during critical events like the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. By empowering regular users to report abusive or suspicious behaviour, WhatsApp is leveraging community feedback to maintain a safer environment.

WhatsApp is introducing new features to its Communities platform, allowing members to create events within groups and reply to admin announcements. Since its launch, Communities has gained popularity globally, offering a platform for various groups to engage in conversations and organise activities effectively.

Unlike outright bans, which result in the deletion of data and conversation history, account limits allow users to learn from their mistakes and follow the app's instructions. The platform hopes to improve the user experience and optimise the restricted mode by testing this functionality with WhatsApp Android beta users over the next few weeks.
