“The only good cage is an empty cage.”

Every year, September 4, is observed as National Wildlife Day, encouraging wildlife lovers to stand up and fight for animal rights that need a voice. This day is celebrated by animal lovers by visiting the local zoo and donating what they can to make a difference in the lives of our beloved animal friends.

National Wildlife Day History:
National Wildlife Day was adopted by Colleen Paige in honour of the late wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin. Steve was globally known as the “Crocodile Hunter.” This day brings awareness to the public concerning the number of endangered animals and the need for conservation and preservation.

Importance of wildlife conservation:
Earth is home to countless species of fauna and flora. It would be a tough job to even attempt to count the species present on earth. Nearly a quarter of all species are presently at risk, risk of going extinct in the upcoming decades. Their demise would only speed up the disappearance of countless others, putting us in danger as well.

Human unsustainable activities and overexploitation of the species and natural resources will make up the habitats and ecosystems of all wildlife impervious to the world’s biodiversity.

We need to educate and inform people about the importance of conserving wildlife both on land and below water to halt the loss of biodiversity.
