Tomato price hike: Dubai-based daughter brings 10 Kg Tomatoes as gift for Mother in India
A Dubai-based daughter asked her Indian mother whether she needed anything from the UAE city. Her mother then said that she would like to have 10 kilograms of tomatoes.

Digital Desk: A Twitter user shared her sister's unexpected gift of 10 kilograms of tomatoes to their mother in India amid the nation's increasing tomato prices. The sister lives in Dubai.

The price of tomatoes has increased significantly over the past several weeks, reaching as high as Rs 300 per kg in some regions of the nation. While the price increase is burning a hole in people's pockets, many are discovering other ways to get the kitchen staple.

A Dubai-based daughter asked her Indian mother whether she needed anything from the UAE city. Her mother then said that she would like to have 10 kilograms of tomatoes.

Revs, a Twitter user, tweeted the account and wrote, "My sister is coming to India from Dubai for her children's summer holidays and she asked my mum if she wanted anything from Dubai and my mother said bring 10 kilos of tomatoes. And so now she has packed 10kg tomatoes in a suitcase and sent it."

She added in her next tweet that her sister had carried the tomatoes to India in Pearlpet storage jars and a bag.

"As a family, we use a ridiculous amount of tomatoes so I will make a pickle, a chutney, bring some for me," the Twitter user stated.

Over 600 people have already liked the tweet, which has received over 47,000 views.

In these times of inflation, the "Best Daughter Award" may be moving in that direction, a Twitter user remarked. One person said, "Resourceful max. I hope your sister doesn't get caught carrying in high-value items at airport customs."

While prices are rising, a farmer from Pune, Maharashtra, has overcome many challenges to sell his bountiful crop of the essential kitchen staple for Rs. 3 crore in less than a month, making him a millionaire.

Due to low prices, farmer Ishwar Gaykar (36), of Pachghar village in Junnar tehsil of Pune district, was forced to make the challenging choice to discard a significant amount of tomatoes that had been picked in May of this year. Despite the setback, he persisted in displaying unshakeable resolve and worked nonstop on his 12-acre farm to grow tomatoes, according to a report.

Since he claimed to have made Rs 3 crore from the sale of his crop produce between June 11 and July 18, according to PTI, Gaykar's labour of love has now handsomely paid off despite the increasing cost of tomatoes, making him a millionaire.
