Digital Desk: An 88-year-old Frenchman sparked an emergency response on Saturday after he arrived at a hospital with a World War I artillery shell trapped in his rectum.
Hospital Sainte Musse, in Toulon, southern France, was evacuated after the unnamed patient arrived in the hopes that someone would remove the WWI bomb stuck in the anus and unwittingly set off a "bomb scare."
"An emergency occurred from 9 pm to 11.30 pm on Saturday that required the intervention of bomb disposal personnel, the evacuation of adult and pediatric emergencies, as well as the diversion of incoming emergencies," said a spokesperson for Hospital Saint Musse.
"We have to manage the risk in a reactive framework," they stated, adding that the administration took all precautions.

Doctors, after having their minds put at ease, made an incision and medically removed the 20-cm-long and 2-inch-wide shell from the patient's behind, according to the French publication Var-Matin.
According to the hospital's spokesperson, the elderly patient is now in "good condition" and is recovering well.
Even though it was unusual, it was not the first time surgeons removed war memorabilia from a patient's rectum.
Last year, a collector in the Gloucester area of the United Kingdom (UK) got a World War II (WWII) artillery shell stuck in his rectum after "slipping and falling" on it while tidying up.
