According to reports, tomatoes were being sold for Rs. 130 per kg, which also happens to be the region's subsidised price.
Digital Desk: Despite the recent increase in the price of tomatoes, a community in Ghaziabad witnessed a long queue of people waiting to buy the vegetable from a tempo in their compound. After a video from the upscale Mahagun Puram neighbourhood in the NCR area went viral online showing several residents standing in queue to buy tomatoes, the neighbourhood has since become well-known.
According to reports, tomatoes were being sold for Rs. 130 per kg, which also happens to be the region's subsidised price. Upon realising that the product would otherwise have cost more than Rs. 200/kg in the Ghaziabad market, customers rushed to buy the vegetable that was being offered at a lower cost.
There have reportedly been arrangements made by the Mandi Parishad, District Administration, and Municipal Corporation to provide residents with the availability of tomatoes at reasonable costs.
In the video, we could see a couple of lines of individuals carrying bags that they were about to fill with vegetables. Men and women were seen waiting in line to buy tomatoes. At the location, which had taken on a dramatic appearance, some were also seen taking selfies and videos.
