An SSB Female Who Served PM Modi SPG Commando Recently Went Viral.

This is not the first time that a female commando has been part of the SPG…

Digital Desk: A  photo of a female ‘Special Protection Group’ commando posted to protect PM Narendra Modi has recently become popular on social networks. The photo was said to have been taken inside the Parliament’s compound and has attracted much attention, becoming the focus for the people.

The photo that went viral, especially on Twitter, has been embraced by many as a sign of empowerment for women. However, this is very surprising, this is not the first time that a female commando has been part of the SPG. SPG women have been in the force for years and have been proving themselves to the force, which is an elite security group.

Although SPG commandos have women personnel as well, they have to qualify through the toughest of training to guard the country’s most valuable personalities, like the Prime Minister of that particular country. Its use demonstrates gradual enlargement and brings out the imperative contribution of women in the security of the nation.

Whenever the Prime Minister is on an outing outside the United States, female SPG commandos are also accorded a place in the security detail. These commands stay watchful on any security aspect around coordination as well as have impressive interaction with officials for protection.

SPG was formed in 1985 to protect the Prime Minister of the country, any former Prime Ministers, and their family members. In 2015, there was an increase in the recruitment of women for commandos in the CPT Close Protection Team. Today, the SPG is made up of about 100 female commandos, more of which point to the inclusion of women in operations that require higher security.

This viral picture is indeed a powerful landmark as it illustrates the change of women's roles in fields that were considered masculine or had male-only roles and their capacity to take on important tasks for the safety of the state leadership. It represents an evolutionary change in the direction of the country increasing the gender sensitivity of its elite security arrangements.
