Starbucks Charged A Couple Over Rs 3 Lakhs For 2 Coffees, Company Blames The Incident To 'Human Error'

The situation became so bad that the couple was forced to cancel their planned family vacation...

Digital Desk: The high prices of some top coffee shops have always been under question. While many people do not think the beverages are worth the price, a large section of society is totally in love with it. However, one Oklahoma couple reported that they were charged considerably more than usual for a regular coffee order. The couple ended up paying more than $4,000 (about Rs. 3,30,192) for just two cups of coffee at a local Starbucks drive-through. The couple said that usually, their order comes out to around $10 (Rs. 825 approx.).

According to WSMV4, Jesse and Deedee O'Dell were charged with a bill of $4,456.27 (about Rs. 3,67,847) on January 7. However, the couple was completely unaware of it. Days later, when Deedee was at the mall with her children and she tried to make a purchase using the same card, it was denied. Following this, the couple found that Starbucks had charged them an extremely high price for their coffee order.

Jesse revealed that even after multiple calls to the coffeehouse chain's customer service, they did not get their money back. "We contacted their (Starbucks) customer service helpline probably 30 to 40 times that day. We got call from representative who said they are sending new checks. But as of today, we still have not received checks," Jesse said. The couple also filed report at the Tulsa Police Department.

The situation became so bad that the couple was forced to cancel their planned family vacation.

"We had planned to take a trip but had to cancel and the tickets are non-refundable. This is something that has caused duress in our family and hopefully, others don't have to go through something like this," Jess said.

Meanwhile, Starbucks blamed the event on "potential human error," the report added. As per the latest report, the company has issued the couple two different checks for compensation.
