Digital Desk: A 20-year-old woman climbed onto a mobile tower to profess her love for a man and convince him to marry her in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, reports stated on Friday.
A huge number of people gathered near the 50-meter-high tower to witness the incident, causing congestion on a nearby highway and prompting officials to implement crowd control measures.
Several people in the crowd recorded the incident on their cellphones since it brought back memories of Dharmendra's (Viru) performance in the movie Sholay, where he expressed his love for Hema Malini's character Basanti on an overhead water tank.
"The woman climbed onto the mobile tower near the Semra Raja toll plaza area in Maharajganj district on 23 November. She had an affair with a local youth (24) for the past few years and wanted to convince him and his family members to marriage,” Circle Officer Ajay Singh Chauhan stated.
"We first tried to convince the woman to come down. However, when she refused to do so, a constable climbed onto the tower and brought her down," said Ajay Singh Chauhan.
The man, a truck driver, was heading to Nepal to deliver a consignment, according to the police, who also stated that a complaint had been filed under IPC section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
