Woman's Nasal Horror: Hundreds of Maggots Found Inside Her Nostrils

The 59-year-old woman had been enduring nasal congestion and facial discomfort for more than a week, initially attributing it to airborne dust

Digital Desk: A woman's nasal congestion led to a shocking discovery when she found herself hosting an unexpected population of maggots in her nostrils.

The 59-year-old woman had been enduring nasal congestion and facial discomfort for more than a week, initially attributing it to airborne dust. However, a nosebleed unveiled the unsettling truth as she observed numerous maggots emerging from her nose.

Seeking medical attention at Nakornping Hospital in Chiang Mai Province, northern Thailand, she underwent an examination by Dr. Pateemon Thanachaikhan, who identified foreign entities in her nasal passages through an X-ray.

Subsequently, using an endoscope, the medical team extracted over 100 maggots, significantly relieving the woman's condition. Had the infestation been left unchecked, there was a risk of the maggots migrating to adjacent organs, potentially resulting in severe consequences, including disability or fatality.

Residents of northern Thailand, particularly Chiang Mai, are reportedly more prone to respiratory ailments like allergies and rhinitis.

This incident evokes a similar case from 2022, where a man in Portugal experienced earache, only to discover flesh-eating maggots infesting his ear canal. Prompt medical intervention removed the larvae, albeit causing minor damage to the eardrum.

These occurrences underscore the importance of seeking medical attention for seemingly minor symptoms, as they could potentially indicate more serious underlying conditions.
