Mumbai: Will Rahul Dravid be India’s new senior team coach? While there are rumors that former Indian captain Rahul Dravid might replace Ravi Shastri as the new coach of the Indian cricket team, the chief of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly has stated on Friday that Dravid is yet to accept the offer for the top job.
While speaking to a media organization the BCCI chief said that there is no confirmation whether Dravid would become the next coach of team India.
Ganguly also said that he personally had a conversation with his former teammate regarding the post, however, Dravid was not very keen to accept the same. Reports also say that Dravid has asked the BCCI chief for some time to make the right decision.
Besides, Ganguly also stated that even if Dravid wishes to take up the job he has to apply through the official process like anyone else.
“If he wants to apply, he will apply, the process has to happen. For now, he is the coach of NCA and I believe NCA has a big role to play in Indian cricket. I have spoken to him earlier about this as well and he was not that interested and I feel the situation is still the same. He has asked for some time, let’s see what happens,” Ganguly said.
Currently, Dravid is the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in his hometown Bengaluru. Besides, he has also mentored the Indian under 19 team and guided India to victory in the 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup as its coach.
Sources also reveal that presently Dravid is being payed INR 7 crore for his NCA role. However, it is being heard that he has been offered a fee over INR 10 crore to take up the coach’s job for the senior team.
