Islamabad: More than 1,000 Pakistani students have been told by their government that it had to rule out their return to home for the moment. Hasan is one such student stuck in China’s Hubei province who has missed his 80-year-old father’s funeral.
“They need me at this time, my mother needs me,” said the PhD computer architecture student. His increasing anxiety and desperation to get back home has also been shared by other Pakistani students in Hubei, some of whom are now getting critical of their government’s response to the situation.
Many other countries like India and Bangladesh have evacuated their citizens from Hubei province as the virus toll rises. As per the reports from Reuters, for the students, depression and anxiety was growing and their feelings worsened by the fear of catching the virus and the uncertainty as to how long the conditions would last.
Hasan said that he was told by Pakistani official on Monday, that they were planning to evacuate the students but some of the students in Wuhan said that the hopes of returning were dashed after a video conference call between students and Pakistan’s health and overseas citizens ministers on Monday.
Some of the students said Pakistani officials had suggested Pakistan did not have the necessary quarantine facilities.
