London (UK): An unexpected message of solidarity with people of India on the occasion of celebrating the 73rd Independence Day came from Baloch region of Pakistan. Activists demanding independence of Balochistan which is a southwestern province within Pakistan chanted “Bharat Mata ki Jai” in Hindi, as reported by ANI.
The Baloch people claim that they got independence from the British in August 11, 1947. The mineral-rich province again attracted attention with trending of #BalochistanSolidarityDay and #14AugustBlackDay on Twitter recording 1,00,000 and 54,000 tweets respectively on a day when Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day yesterday.
Interestingly, India’s neighbouring state observed 14 August yesterday as ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ too protesting India’s decision of abrogating Article 370 accorded to Jammu and Kashmir while bifurcating the region into two Union Territories.

A Baloch activist asked for India’s help in attaining freedom and even said, “Jai Hind!” Yesterday a seminar was held in London with a bid to campaign for ‘Independent Balochistan’. The “Free Baloch Movement” meet was attended by members of several Baloch and Non-Baloch political parties, organisations including Baloch Republican Party (BRP), Balochistan National Movement (Zrombesh), Balochistan People Party, Nation without States, Arab Front for the Liberation of Al-Ahwaz, Campaign Against Criminalizing Communities and 15 April Movement for Liberation of Al-Ahwaz.
