Nightmarish scenes have cropped on social media platforms where rows upon rows of metal boxes have been set up to house suspected Covid-19 patients under its “Zero Covid Policy”.
Rows of buses taking people to quarantine centres have gone viral in social media where the Chinese government looks forward to contain the spread of the disease through draconian laws.
Viral videos showing the nightmarish scenes, reflected a dystopian world, even as several strict preventive measures is being imposed in the country to check the spread of Covid-19.
The Chinese government has imposed many strict laws under its “zero covid policy”, placing millions under quarantine even as Beijing prepares to host next month’s Winter Olympics.
Young children, pregnant ladies and even elderly people are being forced to stay in these crammed metal boxes furnished with a wooden bed and a toilet.
In few cases, people were asked to leave their residences just after midnight and head towards the quarantine centres to stay in the cramped metal boxes.
China has been facing resurgence of Covid cases. Many districts have gone under complete lockdown, with houses being sealed to disallow people from stepping out.
Around 20 million people are now confined to their homes in China and are banned from leaving their even to buy food as per the draconian “Zero Covid Policy”.
China where the coronavirus was first detected in 2019, has a formula it calls “dynamic zero” for curbing outbreaks: strict lockdowns and immediate mass testing.
