Digital Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann on Tuesday
sacked Health Minister Vijay Singla from the cabinet on a corruption charge.
According to reports, Singla allegedly requested a 1%
commission on all department contracts from officials. The office of the chief
minister stated that "solid evidence" had been found against the
minister.
Mann rode to power in Punjab on the back of his party's
anti-corruption rhetoric. "Not even one percent corruption will be
tolerated," Mann declared in a video statement. "People have voted
for an AAP administration with high expectations, and we must deliver. The epic
struggle against corruption will continue as long as mother India has a son
like Kejriwal and a soldier like Bhagwant Mann."
Singla, according to Mann, admitted to his misdeed. Moreover, soon after he was removed from the
Cabinet, the Punjab police's anti-corruption unit detained the Mansa MLA.
Notably, Party MP Raghav Chadha tweeted after the decision:
“Aam Aadmi Party is the only party that has the integrity, courage and
uprightness to take action against their own on grounds of corruption. We saw
it in Delhi, now we are witnessing it in Punjab. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR
CORRUPTION.”
