The BA.2.75, one of several sub-variants of the parent Omicron variant, is in the limelight as scientists look into potential causes for the nation's recent surge in coronavirus cases.

Digital Desk: India reported 13,086 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, down from 16,135 infections and 19 deaths recorded on Monday. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported that 1, 14,475 cases are still active, and 5, 25,242 deaths have been reported nationwide to date. The health ministry data also reveals that as many as 4, 28, 91,933 people have been discharged.

The BA.2.75, one of several sub-variants of the parent Omicron variant, is in the limelight as scientists look into potential causes for the nation's recent surge in coronavirus cases.

It has been found that the BA.2.75, a member of the BA.2 sub-lineage that earlier this year dominated in India, has an 18% growth advantage over the other Omicron sub-variants that are currently in circulation.

Singapore President Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin, and Minister Edwin Tong have tested Covid-19 positive.   Sharing the news on Facebook Yacob wrote, "Just tested positive for Covid-19 with mild flu-like symptoms. Fortunately, I've been boosted and immunised. I apologise for having to miss the events this week and hope to be getting well soon."
