Digital Desk: The casualties in a suicide bombing at a political rally rose to 45 on Monday, officials stated, adding to concerns about unrest leading up to a general election later in the year.

On Sunday in the northwest's Bajaur area, near the Afghan border, the bomber attacked a gathering of the conservative Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) party, a government ally known for its links to radical Islamists.

Till now no group has claimed responsibility.

The casualties have risen to 45, according to Bilal Faizi, a representative of a government-run rescue agency. According to Riaz Anwar, a government health consultant, 61 of the more than 130 injured people were under treatment.

According to a statement from the police, a counterterrorism unit investigating the explosion suspects the Islamic State group was behind it.

Since the collapse of a truce between the Pakistani Taliban, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and the government last year, Islamist militant assaults in Pakistan have increased.
