The attack occurred as individuals were engaged in Fajr (dawn) prayers, which significantly increased the number of casualties, according to the Hamas-run Gaza government media office.
The Israeli military stated that the strike targeted a Hamas command and control center hidden within the Al-Taba’een school, situated near a mosque in Daraj Tuffah. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) claimed that the operation was aimed at Hamas terrorists and was conducted with measures to minimize civilian harm. The military emphasized that precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and intelligence were employed to avoid civilian casualties.
This incident follows a series of strikes on schools in Gaza over the past week. On August 4, two schools serving as shelters in Gaza City were hit, resulting in 30 deaths and multiple injuries. The previous day, an Israeli strike on Hamama School killed 17 people, and on August 1, another attack on Dalal al-Mughrabi School resulted in 15 fatalities.
