The purpose of
World Press Freedom Day is that it promotes awareness about the importance of
press freedom and the role that journalists play in advancing democracy and
keeping governments responsible.
The day allows us to stand in solidarity with journalists and
support their vital work. It serves as a reminder that presses freedom is more
than a right; it is an essential component of a free and democratic society.
On World Press Freedom Day 2023, the
UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize, which recognizes the enormous
achievements of journalists, particularly those who risk their lives to convey
vital information to the public, will also be presented.
