    A day without any gadgets? Try digitally detoxing yourself with five easy steps

    As our scrolling becomes more vacuous, it's time to take a step back and change.


    Digital Desk: The present generation seems way too immersed in new technology. Our laptops and cellphones serve as our one-stop shops for everything from gaming to relationships to entertainment to news to learning new skills. Take a minute to relax, and you'll see that your hand will naturally flit to your smartphone.


    It's time for us to stand back and reset as our surfing becomes more and more insatiable.


    Here are the five steps that will help you to detox from the digital world: 


    1|Always remember the usage of Gadgets: Be aware of how you use technology. Our cell phones are frequently the last thing we check before going to sleep and the first thing we glance at when we wake up. Consider how many of the images or postings you saw you actually recall. How purposefully do you use your time? It may also be useful to use metrics that show how much time is spent on each app.


    2|Unplug the Gadgets: Don't be too concerned about your momentary absence from the online world. Make a distinction between work and personal time. Learn to turn off your electronics after a certain time of day or when engaging in certain recreational activities.


    3|Improve offline relationships: Emojis and animated gifs have surpassed words and emotional expression.Prioritize meeting people in person whenever possible. When distance is an issue, choose video and phone calls over texts.


    4| Help restore your passions: Growing up, we all participated in sports, enjoyed creative arts, or had hobbies that we wanted to pursue. However, if you ask an adult what their hobbies are, you will most likely be met with a puzzled expression. Movies, television shows, video games, and scrolling content have taken over our leisure time. Re-engage with life as you attempt to transition from virtual reality to lived reality. Reclaim the activities you used to enjoy, such as playing a board game with family, going for a walk with a friend, or dancing to music. Learning new skills is also a great way to stay mindfully engaged.


    5|Try a break from social media: Here's a challenge I give to a lot of young people I meet: go four hours without using any technology (while awake and not in school of course). But this isn't just a problem for teenagers. Let's all commit to a weekly digital detox - you'll be amazed at what the real world has to offer.
