Arvind Kejriwal: "Will clean Yamuna before 2025 election"

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal made his latest poll promises on Thursday. He stated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government would clean the Yamuna river. He will take a dip in it ahead of the next Assembly elections.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Kejriwal stated that the government had prepared a six-point action design to clean the Yamuna river.

Chief Minister further stated, "It took 70 years for river Yamuna to become this dirty. It can't be cleaned within two days. I had assured people in these Delhi polls that by the next polls, we would clean it. We have begun a task on war-footing, and we have 6 action plans over it. I am personally monitoring it,"

Regarding the action plan, Kejriwal said that the government is working on a drain line on war-footing. "First, new drain processing plants are being developed. Second, the size of working plants is being developed. Third, the technology of old processing plants is being altered. Fourth, trash from Jhuggi Jhopri clumps that goes into streams will now be combined into drains. Fifth, the government will establish sewer links in areas where people haven't taken sewer connections. Lastly, repair of drains will be done."

Kejriwal led-government will also shut down the industries, releasing manufacturing waste into the Yamuna, the AAP leader stated.

"Our engineers and officers are hopeful that we will be able to clean the Yamuna by February 2025. The implementation of the six-point action plan will help in cleaning the river. Particular objectives have been established for all action points. I will especially look into the progress," Kejriwal added.

However, the current government faced criticism from opposition leaders regarding pollution. Opposition leaders criticize the Kejriwal government for the pollution in the Yamuna during the Chhath Puja celebrations.
