Digital Desk: The first meeting of the 'One Nation, One Election' committee will take place on September 23 (Saturday). While speaking to media today, former President and chairman of the committee, Ram Nath Kovind said, "The first meeting to take place on September 23, 2023". The committee's was established to examine the policy.
The government has already notified an eight-member high-level committee to investigate and provide suggestions as soon as possible on the matter of holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats.
Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former Rajya Sabha opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, and former Finance Commission chairman NK Singh will all serve on the committee.
Former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash C. Kashyap, prominent attorney Harish Salve, and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari will also serve on the group, which will get to work right once and offer recommendations as soon as possible.

The committee will look into and recommend any necessary changes to the Constitution, the Representation of the People Act, and any other laws and regulations that would need to be changed in order to organise simultaneous elections.
It will also look into whether or not the States would need to ratify the Constitutional amendments and make a recommendation.
The committee will also examine and make recommendations for potential responses to events like a hung House, the adoption of a no-confidence vote, defections, or any other occurrence in the event of concurrent elections.
All individuals, representations, and messages that the committee believes will help it complete its work and formulate its recommendations will be heard and considered.
