Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, will implement a dress code for visitors, excluding the wearing...
Digital Desk: An official stated on Monday that the 12th-century Jagannath temple in Odisha's Puri will impose a clothing rule for devotees beginning January 1.
According to him, the decision was made at the 'Niti' sub-committee meeting after a few persons showed up in the temple wearing "indecent" attire.
"It is our responsibility to preserve the temple's dignity and sanctity. Unfortunately, some people have been discovered visiting the temple without regard for the religious sentiments of others," Shree Jagannath Temple Administration chief Ranjan Kumar Das explained.
"Some people were discovered in the temple wearing torn jeans, sleeveless dresses, and half-pants as if they were strolling through a park or on the beach. The temple is God's abode, not a place for entertainment," he stated.
The Temple Administration chief stated that the kind of outfits that would be permitted would be decided soon.
"Beginning January 1, 2024, the dress code will be strictly enforced inside the temple. Security guards stationed at the temple's 'Singha Dwar' and Pratihari servants inside the temple have been tasked with enforcing the code," Das explained.
The temple management will begin educating devotees about the dress requirement on Tuesday, he said.
People wearing half-pants, shorts, damaged jeans, skirts, or sleeveless dresses will be denied access, he said.
