    Digital Desk: Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, also known as Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, was a prominent Indian scientist, engineer, and statesman who served as a past president and made a lasting impression on both his country and the world. 


    From humble origins, he ascended to become one of India's most adored and revered figures. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram town, and today commemorates his 92nd birthday.





    Every year on October 15, India celebrates World Students Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the country's 11th president. 


    Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, who grew up in a poor family always was fascinated by aviation, rockets, and space from an early age. 


    Despite all odds, Kalam earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) and rose to prominence in the realm of rocket and missile technologies. Millions of people are still inspired by his life story.


    Dr. Kalam was also granted India's highest civilian distinction, the Bharat Ratna, in addition to the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan for his service as the government of India's scientific advisor.


    Dr. APJ Kalam's amazing career trajectory earned him the moniker "Missile Man of India," and as India's eleventh president, he never stopped inspiring his fellow citizens with his vision of an independent and prosperous India. Unfortunately, Kalam died of a heart attack while giving a speech in Shillong on July 27, 2015. He had been at the DRDO for nearly four decades.

    On the occasion of the birth anniversary of former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somnath started off the 'Rameswaram Marathon' on Sunday.


    The marathon began at 6 a.m. in Rameswaram under the direction of District Collector P. Vishnushandran, and a large number of youths took part in the event.


    As an aerospace scientist, Kalam worked for India's two largest space research bodies, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).


    On the occasion of the former President's 92nd birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to him on Sunday.
